Add a CEDAR Metadata Record to a File

CEDAR Metadata templates are community-developed templates designed to aggregate and organize projects based on metadata categories. This support guide helps you add a metadata record to an File

  • In order to add or edit a Metadata record to your project, registration or file you will need to have either Admin or Read + Write permissions
  • For your Metadata to be publicly available your project must be public

To add a CEDAR community metadata record start by going into your go to your “Files” found on your OSF registration or OSF Project


Select the file that needs the Metadata Record by clicking the blue title text.

Once the file is open select “Add Record”


The following screen will give you options for available metadata templates (see examples 1,2,3, and 4). Select the Metadata Template applicable to your file, by clicking the clear "Select" button.


Once all of the required fields have been populated, the green button at the bottom of the screen will change from “Save Draft” to “Publish”

Once the Metadata record is complete you can "Share", "Download" or "Edit" the Metadata record.

Share: Click the share Icon to create a URL to share your Metadata record


Download: Click the Download Icon to download the Metadata Record as a .json file


Edit: Click the Edit button to edit the Metadata Record
