The games are back on in more ways than one. Netflix just announced that the third and final season of Squid Game will be released on June 27 and, in the first clip, the rebellion that ended season two has been all but forgotten. Everyone is back in the game.
News of the release date was announced at a big 2025 preview event Netflix held in Los Angeles Wednesday morning. Squid Game‘s final chapter will pick up where season two left off, with player 456’s (Lee Jung-jae) rebellion having been thwarted and death of his friend, player 390 (Lee Seo-hwang) at the hands of the masked Front Man (Lee Byung-hun)—who the audience knows is actually 456’s supposed teammate, player 001. And while we don’t know specifically what happens in those next moments, Netflix did show an exclusive clip from the season that gave us a small taste.
The remaining surviving players gather in a room with what looks like a giant gumball machine in the center. They all look pretty tired and disheveled, leading us to believe this might be taking place immediately following—or at least very close to it—the events at the end of season two. In number order, each cranks the machine and pulls out a ball: blue or pink. The breakdown is pretty even, with some good guys and bad guys on each side. One significant split is the mother and son from the previous season who draw different colors. “We don’t even know what the game is,” the mom says. Finally, after everyone has drawn, one person remains: 456. A loud, bustling room gets eerily quiet as he walks up and looks at the one final, remaining ball. It’s pink.
What is the difference? Are these new housing assignments or teams for the next game? We don’t know. But, we won’t have to wait long to find out. Squid Game 3, the third and final season, comes to Netflix June 27. Here’s a new poster Netflix released to go with the date announcement:
