Permit opening >2Gb files on 32-bit OS

Provide an MMAP emulation to permit 32-bit installations (in particular Python(x,y)) to handle large files. This needn't be fast, or for that matter even a complete emulation of mmap - just enough to provide functionality in these environments without having to switch out the whole distribution
