Could you also add the value for adding a system-wide proxy with maybe an example use-case? Would be super awesome!

Awesome, could you also just add a line in the beginning why I want to proxy? (Because I have no idea, would love to know! Then it's cool to merge I think!

Sure; I am trying to find a good use case.
If your network uses a proxy-server, none of the Internet based services like curl, wget etc. would work if proxy variables are not set.
