@mirelachirica has this changed the user facing API in anyway? Looks like additional function or is that internal only?

@AnttiKauppila maybe you could answer? I'm not merging this until I know whether it is suitable for a patch or the next minor.

sorry I missed this question :( Changes are internal only no API changes.
