Max Irons Joins ‘Young Sherlock’ as Mycroft Holmes in Guy Ritchie’s Prime Video Series

Guy Ritchie’s new Sherlock Holmes television series titled “Young Sherlock” has found its Mycroft Holmes. Max Irons will play the role of the elder Holmes brother in the Amazon Prime Video show. Mycroft is Sherlock’s sibling who has already established the Diogenes Club in London. Little is known about Irons’ portrayal of the character so far, but it suggests Mycroft will play an important part in the story.

The series will follow the renowned detective Sherlock Holmes during his university years at Oxford. Hero Fiennes Tiffin was previously cast as the young Sherlock Holmes. Now 19 years old, he becomes embroiled in a murder mystery that threatens his freedom. Uncovering a vast conspiracy in the process, Sherlock begins to hone the observational skills that made him famous.

Set against the backdrop of 19th century Oxford, “Young Sherlock” draws inspiration from a series of novels about the character’s early life. However, the show is crafting its own original narrative. Max Irons joins a talented ensemble that also includes Joseph Fiennes and Natasha McElhone as Sherlock’s parents, and Donal Finn as his future nemesis James Moriarty. The series also features Chinese Princess Gulun Shou’an and Bucephalus Hodge.

Guy Ritchie, known for his work directing two Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr., will direct and executive produce the television adaptation. Matthew Parkhill serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Simon Kelton, Ivan Atkinson, and Marc Resteghini. Filming is currently underway through the production company Motive Pictures.

This new take on Sherlock Holmes promises to deliver an “action-packed and irreverent” origin story. It hopes to introduce the iconic character to a new generation of viewers. With Ritchie’s proven ability to bring Holmes adventures to life coupled with a seasoned cast, expectations are high for this latest iteration of the world’s most famous detective.
