Special Rules for Handling Semi-Automatic Pistols... 1. Risk of accident is greatly increased with a semi-automatic pistol when a cartridge is carried in the chamber. This practice is not recom- mended and should only be used in the case of self-defense. 2. If you must carry a semi-automatic pistol with a cartridge in the chamber, always lower the hammer to the uncocked position. Your pistol is equipped with a firing pin safety block, use the safety to low- er the hammer, not the trigger. 3. When uncocking the hammer always ease the hammer down. Never let it fall down as this may cause the pistol to fire accidentally. 4. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction when manually oper- ating the slide to load the first cartridge from the magazine into the chamber. Malfunctions that allow the pistol to fire when the slide snaps forward without the trigger being pulled are rare but can hap- pen. Always grip the slide so that your fingers, hand elbow, head and other parts of your body are behind the pistol. R-61/PA63/M74/MAKAROV/AP9 The above semi-automatic pistols are a derivative of the time proven Walther PP and PPK designs. They are double action pistols which allow them to be fired with the hammer down or in the cocked position. These weapons are an ideal sidearm for sports use, self-defense and small game hunting. While the safety design is very dependable, it is recommended that the chamber remains empty until the weapon is actually ready to be fired. Safety Note: The safety of the pistol is located on the left rear of the slide. When the red dot is showing the safety is off and the pistol will fire when the trigger is pulled. When the safety is cov- ering the painted red dot the safety is on. When the safety is employed on a loaded pistol, the hammer will fall on a blocked safety pin. The safety pin block prevents the pistol from firing when the hammer falls.
