SEISMIC INTERPRETATION AND ATTRIBUTES 5 DAYS

AUDIENCE
The proposed program is designed for geophysicists having background in seismic interpretation or processing as well as to
reservoir geologists and petrophysicists having some basic knowledge in geophysics.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
Seismic Reservoir Characterization is now one of the key of successful integrated studies, as seismic data is now able to provide
relevant information on reservoir properties between wells.
The proposed course reviews all practical aspects of rock physics and seismic reservoir characterization, with a particular focus
on:

3D Seismic-interpretation
Petrophysics applied to seismic
Rock-physics concepts
Seismic attributes and their relationships to rock properties with special reference to derived elastic properties from seismic
velocities
Petrophysical analysis of complex rocks: Unconsolidated and consolidated clastics, carbonates with vugs and fractures,
shales and heavy oil formations
Fluids and fluid substitution: Methods and input parameters
Fluid relationships to rock types
Principles of AVO and seismic inversions

COURSE INFORMATION
Seismic petrophysical analysis involves the study and application of well log data and rock physics theory to the interpretation of
seismic data. One will gain an understanding the application of rock physics and its integration with well log data in a
petrophysical evaluation and then use the results to model and interpret seismic data.
The course covers the basics of rock-physics, seismic inversion, attribute analysis and reservoir characterization. It combines
technical presentations and hands-on exercises, as well as the presentation of real case studies. At the end of the session,
attendees will:

Understand and manage the basics and concepts of Rock Physics for Seismic Reservoir Characterization

MODULE 1
WEEK 6
FACIES ANALYSIS AND ROCK TYPING 5 DAYS

AUDIENCE
Geophysicists, Geologists and Reservoir engineers involved in integrated reservoir studies.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Knows how to identify electrofacies from logs
Knows log signatures and facies association
Knows how to define rock-types with petrophysical data (logs and laboratory data)
Knows how to define Petrofacies from various relationships like Reservoir Quality Index, Winland R35 for net pay
determination and other poro-perm transforms
Sequence and Facies association (like coarsening/ fining upward)
Knows rock typing using artificial neural network (including Self Organized Maps), fuzzy logic and multiple regression for
facies mapping

COURSE INFORMATION
This integrated approach to facies analysis and rock-typing combines logs, interpreted logs from quantitative evaluation, core
description, and laboratory petrophysical data (routine core analysis and special core analysis). Interpretation techniques
allowing a consistent integration of these different sources of data will be developed based on probabilistic and neural network
pattern recognition, as well as on linear and non- linear multiple regression. The course will then focus on the integration of the
rock-types in seismic attribute analysis for predicting reservoir properties to be integrated later on while infilling the geological
model. All course content will be developed on real case studies, and hands-on are planned on all major topics.
