"What's new in healthcare innovation globally?" I had the pleasure to share my thoughts on this topic at the annual event in Paris hosted by La Poste Santé & Autonomie, which brought together the entire French #healthcare and #healthTech ecosystem. François BRAUN: Former Minister of Social Affairs and Health of #France . stephane pierrefitte: Deputy General Director at the University Hospital Group (Psychiatry & Neurosciences) . Hélène GUIMIOT: Head of the Health Service in the Legal Support Department of the French data protection authority (CNIL) . Kathy Malas: Director of Research, Innovation, and Learning at CISSS Montérégie-Ouest, Quebec. Special thanks to Dominique Pon, CEO of La Poste Santé & Autonomie for the great moderation (and great event). The key points of my presentations in a nutshell: The NHS, a cornerstone of British pride, is in crisis according to Lord Darzi's 2024 report (published in Sep 24) Key findings show 33% of Britons now wait over a week for GP appointments, compared to 16% in 2021. Bupa has responded by offering a subscription model for primary care: £17/month for same-day teleconsultations or £22/month for in-person visits, raising concerns about a potential two-tier system. Following the publication of the report, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer aims to transition the NHS to a digital system. There are already promising initiatives within the NHS like the 42 Integrated Care Systems (ICS) and the GP Practice Improvement Program, which has replaced 30% of face-to-face visits with text consultations. AI could also play a crucial role, with most NHS staff supporting its use in patient care (76%) and administration (81%). Four key #AI archetypes include: 1️⃣ Non-clinical AI for consumers/patients AI-based care navigation, seen with US companies like Transcarent or UnitedHealth Group's Find Care & Costs tool. 2️⃣ Clinical AI for consumers/patients AI predictive models intercepting disease through blood analysis (e.g., Function Health, Aware) or imaging (e.g., Neko Health). 3️⃣ Clinical AI for health professionals AI Clinical Decision Support (AI-CDS), especially in radiology (75% of FDA approved AI-CDS), but also beyond with companies like Tempus AI in AI-oncology. 4️⃣ Non-clinical AI for healthcare professionals AI-enhanced administrative management (like Ambient AI, ...), likely to see the fastest adoption in the short term. Three potential winners in the AI healthcare transformation: Epic: Aiming to orchestrate AI in hospitals with its App Store Showroom. Mayo Clinic: Already using 70+ AI algorithms and developing the Mayo Clinic Platform_Connect, a data hub connecting major hospitals for AI model training. La Poste Santé & Autonomie: An innovative public player acting as a trusted intermediary between healthcare systems, industry, and regulators to implement new models of care.

Great to see the venture build/company creation model gaining more support ( and investment). Many congratulations to General Inception. The concept makes such good business sense, especially in the current investment environment with large investments in later stage opportunities being the trend. This leaves the earlier stages of innovation, (where the future late-stage opportunities originate) needing capitally efficient and creative approaches. We at Cumulus Oncology totally embrace and embody this approach. Great to see visionary investors getting behind this too. The blend of extensive early stage opportunities in Europe coupled with capital and highly experienced mission-focussed teams with successful track records behind them is a winning strategy.

If you know an 18 yo who dream of creating a deep tech startup, they could go to a big natural sciences' university. Or… …go to a small(ish) stand alone business school🏫 Les Deeptech 🚀 from Bpifrance just released their latest analysis for #French #Deeptech, which gives us an interesting overview of the local higher education scene. Sure, HEC Paris - Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute is ranked #4 in that list (and we are happy about it), but that’s not the really interesting part. What you should pay attention to is that we are not an anomaly. Among the top 15 listed universities, one-third are business schools! It does feel like getting a business education could bring value to science-based entrepreneurship… But what do I know? 🤷‍♂️ What we do know is that investing in research and education keeps paying dividends. Deon and I are thrilled to announce that Cognyx just closed a 1.7m€ Pre-Seed to help manufacturers design hardware at software speed! The round is led by Bpifrance's VC team Digital Ventures, and features some of the most prominent business angels of the French & German startup scenes. “Hardware is hard”? Let's make it easier and faster to engineer. Our journey started only 8 months ago, when we decided to join forces with OSS Ventures. Using the studio’s robust co-design methodology, we uncovered a massive opportunity in the manufacturing space: engineering R&D cycles are often very slow, mostly because technical and product data lies disseminated across siloed IT systems. Engineers and stakeholders spend weeks identifying dependencies and solving conflicts between design, manufacturing or supply constraints. In particular, the industry’s most central R&D deliverable, the BOM (Bill of Materials) and its many variants, takes forever to align over several departments and scattered data sets. What first sounds like a technical problem actually has a direct impact to a manufacturing company’s core competitiveness: it slows down innovation cycles, extends Time to Market, makes it really hard to optimize products for a set of conflicting constraints, and eventually leads to serious quality issues on the production line. The problem sizes in dozens of millions for most large manufacturers. Cognyx intends to fix this, leveraging the latest available technologies. Using knowledge graphs, the data layer we built already bridges the gap between historical manufacturing softwares (ERP, PLM, MES…). All engineers and stakeholders can now contribute in real time on a unique "super-BOM", solving technical conflicts in real-time. The resulting acceleration of engineering workflows is already massive and… we’re only getting started with #AI! Speaking with President Macron in New York yesterday during UN General Assembly week, we emphasized France's outsized role in the innovation economy. General Catalyst has invested over $500Mn in leading startups in the country like Mistral AI and Shift Technology, and I have seen myself the talent density especially in AI through organizations like STATION F. The French have immense opportunity to lead in AI by promoting a competitive landscape—engaging incumbents while promoting home grown startups and allowing startups to thrive without a burdensome regulatory scheme. Their leadership in advanced energy through nuclear power will not only support the AI revolution domestically, but can be exported to allied countries around the world which we desperately need.  As my partner and Head of GC Europe Jeannette zu Fürstenberg says, we believe Europe should have the ambition to create 3 of the 10 largest global tech companies. As part of our role in the new France Biotech task force dedicated to the #CSR transition and transformation of the health industry, our co-founder Guillaume Richard de Vesvrotte led a webinar to take a step back on where we are at today when it comes to the sustainable transformation challenge for companies.
