An Emerging Cornerstone of Last-Mile Distribution: The Power of Data and Process Digitalization
Nextbillion.net
Social enterprises at the last-mile are working relentlessly to close the gap in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This challenge is quite arduous, as people in need of greater access to essential products and services related to health (SDG 3), water and sanitation (SDG 6) or energy (SDG 7) are often the most underprivileged – and thus often the most sensitive to a product’s price. Given this limitation, organizational cost-efficiency is the primary variable affecting the…

Social site characterisation & stakeholder management
Global CCS Institute, ULCOS
The overall objective of this report is to propose a methodology targeted at creating the most favourable negotiating environment for all project stakeholders—including the project developer—to agree on project acceptability conditions. This process has been partially applied to a real CO2 Capture and Storage project: the ULCOS project (see below).
This report provides four in-depth case studies detailing the critical early steps that a project most go through to first understand, then manage, the social environment in which a project is taking place. The case studies capture the context for each step in the process, as well as examples of the methodologies used, the results achieved and the lessons learned and recommendations for other projects. The case studies cover four stages in two phases, the first three explain the key stages in the social site characterisation phase, the fourth the enactment of a stakeholder engagement strategy.Other authorsSee publication -
At the bottom of the phone charging value chain...
ENEA Consulting & GVEP International
In the rural region of the lake Victoria in Tanzania, almost half of the phone owners must travel between 4 and 18 Km to charge their phone due to lack of energy access. If we consider that more than 90% of phones uses are related to business or to money transfers, then a broader access to mobile charging services would represent a key value creation lever at the local level.

The integration of theses stakeholders expectations (Corporate Social Responsibility) is designed at the corporate level, however it should not stick to this stage: an organization truly assumes a corporate social responsibility while spreading it to its operational tasks and projects. At this last stage, CSR becomes a crucial lever of performance, understood as Social Acceptance.
ENEA Consulting analyses social acceptance challenges and shares its lessons learned concerning the costs of inactivity for industrial project developers. [Publication in French] -
