🌏 Last week, we had the pleasure to participate in the first Preparatory Committee for the Fourth UN International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, held in Addis Ababa. Representing The Finance In Common Summit, Nicolas Picchiottino and Clémence Guiresse contributed through various engagements: 1️⃣ By participating to all sessions and thematic multistakeholder roundtables 2️⃣ Moderating the roundtable on Domestic Resource Mobilization 3️⃣ Responding at the roundtable on International Development Cooperation 4️⃣ Speaking at the private side event “Delivering an urgent investment push on the SDGs and structural reform of international finance in FfD4: Toward a joint advocacy strategy” 📚Additionally, we organized a side event on Public Development Banks #PDBs titled "Transforming Finance for Sustainable Development: The Essential Role of Public Development Banks." 🤝 With over 50 attendees, this event furthered, featuring a notable intervention by Ms. Boitumelo Masoko, CEO of Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), helped broaden understanding of the crucial role PDBs play in financing sustainable development. 📝 With over 900 participants, including 20+ ministers and 200+ representatives from civil society, academia, and the private sector, the discussions highlighted key priorities: ➡ Fully implementing the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA) of 2015 as a vital and relevant framework for today’s development finance landscape. ➡ Restoring trust in multilateralism as crucial for the success of the upcoming conference. ➡ Reforming the international financial architecture and economic governance to make them more #inclusive, #equitable, and democratic ➡ Addressing the challenges related to #debtsustainability ➡ Ensuring access to long-term, predictable, and concessional financing, which is essential for developing countries to invest in the SDGs ➡ Strengthening domestic resource mobilization, including rethinking commodities markets, enhancing international tax cooperation, and combating illicit financial flows ➡Unlocking the potential of trade and technology for sustainable development financing Finally, the discussions underscored the pivotal role of #MDBs and #PDBs in providing technical assistance for #capacitybuilding, leveraging ODA to mobilize private sector investments, and offering long-term, counter-cyclical support to stabilize economies and advance sustainable development. Thanks to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs for organizing these meetings, which allowed us to address many key issues. #SustainableDevelopment #FinanceForDevelopment #UNConference #SDGs ✍ FiCS Secretariat: Alessandro Mancini | Catherine Collin | Jimena Iraheta | Ornella d'Amico Skalli | Max Neumann | Clémence Guiresse | Nicolas Picchiottino | Arthur Pataud | Adama MARIKO

Addressing our common need to build new forms of prosperity that take care of people and planet in a resilient manner
À propos
The first edition of the Finance in Common Summit, taking place 9-12 November 2020 in Paris and online, will stress the crucial role of Public Development Banks (PDBs) in reconciling short-term countercyclical responses to the Covid-19 crisis with sustainable recovery measures that will have a long-term impact on the planet and societies. The Finance in Common Summit is an opportunity to: - gather for the first time the world’s 450 PDBs and discuss their role, their ambition, their challenges and opportunities; - bring together the financial community at large to design a financial system whereby Public Development banks would have the ability to reorient and leverage all financial flows in the direction of climate and the SDGs; and - contribute to supporting and reinventing multilateralism by promoting new forms of cooperation. The Finance in Common Summit will be a key milestone on the way to the crucial events of 2021, notably the COP26, the COP15 and the Generation Equality Forum, by reconciling the entire finance community in support of the common action for climate and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By rallying and challenging a new and significant global community with enhanced capacity of action, and by promoting sustained collective action, the Finance in Common Summit seeks to contribute substantially to the success of the UNSG’s “Decade of Action”. #FinanceinCommon2020 @financeincommon

Today Rémy Rioux joined the #FootballforSustainabilitySummit in Berlin to discuss about #Sport4Development. Sport is gaining momentum in the world of sustainable development, but its potential still remains underexploited. A group of #PDBs and other partners are working hard to promote sustainable development through sport and scale up their experiences and success stories in this innovative and high-impact field. The FiCS Coalition for Sustainable Development through Sport, launched in 2020 at the first edition of the Finance in Common, is committed to advocate with Governments and Policymakers to increase the centrality of Sport, showcasing its potential impacts and to increase sports investments. On the 25th of July, the Paris Summit for Sustainable Development Through Sport will be the right forum to make new and ambitious announcements, involving more countries and public development banks in this challenging journeys. Stay tuned! German Development Cooperation(giz) African Union Yunus Sports Hub

Glad to have joined the 2024 festival London Climate Action Week #LCAW2024 🌍💼 On June 25, Adama MARIKO participated in two events organized on the occasion of the London Climate Action Week : E3G State of Climate Politics Forum to discuss financial risk management as well as technical assistance and capacity building during the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) roundtable on the Global Capacity Building Coalition. 🔗https://lnkd.in/eDmzHwXA 🔗https://lnkd.in/gkpS82_z Both events were a good occasion to highlight the key role played by #PDBs in the fight against #climatechange as well as the challenges they face in providing effective support. The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) GCBC roundtable highlighted the crucial role of #TA and #capacitybuilding to induce sustainable changes and innovation, but also highlighted the current fragmented landscape and limited access to information for those needing support. 📢 The roundtable was an opportunity to present the first results and initial recommendations of a FiCS mapping on TA and capacity building, among which 1️⃣ The need to adopt a differentiated approach in designing TA based on the type, size, and maturity level of PDBs 2️⃣ The need for a more holistic approach to address current gaps in TA offerings. Knowledge sharing through platforms like the GCBC is essential to bridge information gaps. During the panel on Financial Risk Management with E3G, our discussion highlighted some critical issues and potential solutions within the international financial system, such as: 📊 The Sustainable Finance landscape: The international financial system must reorient and leverage all financial flows towards lower-middle and low-income countries. 🏦 The role of #PDBs: PDBs often fill financing gaps where the private sector is reluctant or unable to offer financial support 🤝 Global coalitions like International Development Finance Club (IDFC) and The Finance In Common Summit help align investments with global frameworks such as the #2030Agenda, the #ParisAgreement, and the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework. 💡Innovative Financing is crucial to provide fiscal space without aggravating debt burdens – this is why we have launched the FiCS Innovation Lab 🔗https://lnkd.in/dBPZxVfA 📈 Risk Management: policymakers should view PDBs as “SDG enablers” and adapt regulatory and policy frameworks to fully unleash their catalytic potential Stay tuned for more updates. Thank you to all the participants for the great discussions👏 AFD - Agence Française de Développement Catherine Collin Max Neumann Ornella d'Amico Skalli Nicolas Picchiottino Jimena Iraheta Arthur Pataud Clémence Guiresse Alessandro Mancini

🚀 Welcome to the Global Coalition for Social Justice! I had the opportunity to be part of The Coalition’s Inaugural Forum, held during the 112th Session of the International Labour Organization in Geneva🇨🇭 During the panel discussions on _“Building the resilience of societies”,_ we highlighted the crucial role that coalition plays in aligning financial planning and economic policy with the #SDGs. This alignment is essential for reducing investment risks, correcting market failures, and mobilizing private financing, especially during times of crisis. 📉 🎯 *Main Goal:* Creating a collaborative space for action, dialogue,Advocacy and collective opportunities for concrete actions. 🤝 💡 *Key Solutions Discussed:* 🚀 *The Global Accelerator:* A powerful initiative to advance concrete pilot experiences in pathfinder countries, with national social strategies endorsed at the highest level. 🔗 *Creating Networks between PDBs:* Essential for unleashing the full potential of public development banks (PDBs) by connecting them regardless of size, maturity stages, and operational capacities through for example The Finance In Common Summit. 🌐 *Systemic Approach for PDBs:* Emphasizing knowledge sharing, capacity building, advocacy on the role of PDBs, alignment of financial flows with the SDGs, and fostering cooperation within the financial ecosystem. ❓ *Key Questions and Insights:* How do productive employment and social protection bolster resilience to crises and aid in adapting to major ongoing green, demographic, economic, and digital transitions? ➡️ To achieve a successful ecological transition, financing new infrastructures, training necessary human resources, and strong ownership by all socio-economic actors are crucial. Mitigation and adaptation objectives are unattainable without adequate human resources. Therefore, countries must be supported to ensure their education and training systems provide greater access to the poorest households, especially women. 📚 💡 We recognized the urgency to scale up social investments as an integrated component to achieve all sustainable development goals, realize low carbon transitions, and demonstrate resilience to various and cumulative crises. 🌱 A big thank you to the International Labour Organization and its Director General for spearheading this new initiative! 👏 Congrats to our wonderful moderator Femi Oke; And thank you to all the panelists: Marina Elvira Calderone Ministero del Lavoro e delle Politiche Sociali Agnes Makonda-Nyalonje, Minister of Labour, Malawi Dato Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman Malaysian Employers Federation Zingiswa Losi President Congress of South African Trade Unions Jose M Salazar-Xirinachs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala #GlobalCoalition #SustainableDevelopment #FinancialInclusion #PublicDevelopmentBanks #ILO #Geneva2024 #ClimateAction
