Currently in Hefei, China with 3GPP RAN and CT groups helping them to work on their way to #6G. Once again a great collaboration between ETSI and CCSA that will make a successful meeting. Happy #WorldStandardsDay to all !!
The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) unites [Seven] telecommunications standard development organizations (ARIB, ATIS, CCSA, ETSI, TSDSI, TTA, TTC), known as “Organizational Partners” and provides their members with a stable environment to produce the Reports and Specifications that define 3GPP technologies. The project covers cellular telecommunications network technologies, including radio access, the core transport network, and service capabilities - including work on codecs, security, quality of service - and thus provides complete system specifications. The specifications also provide hooks for non-radio access to the core network, and for interworking with Wi-Fi networks. 3GPP specifications and studies are contribution-driven, by member companies, in Working Groups and at the Technical Specification Group level. The three Technical Specification Groups (TSG) in 3GPP are; - Radio Access Networks (RAN), - Services & Systems Aspects (SA), - Core Network & Terminals (CT) The Working Groups, within the TSGs, meet regularly and come together for their quarterly TSG Plenary meeting, where their work is presented for information, discussion and approval. Each TSG has a particular area of responsibility for the Reports and Specifications within its own Terms of Reference (Details available in the Specification Groups pages at www.3gpp.org).

Recovering... from a fantastic trip for the 3GPP TSGs#105 (Telstra hosted) and this TCCA-Critical Communications event for ANZ experts. I have now added the ETSI and 3GPP presentations to the article at https://lnkd.in/ey7z-KbF
This week saw leadership from 3GPP, ETSI and TCCA-Critical Communications in Melbourne to present insights and updates on critical standards development to an audience of government and industry from the critical communications sector in Australia. Prior to this event, 3GPP's quarterly plenary was hosted in the city by Telstra. Read an overview of the event at the link below, where the presentation slides are available. Our thanks to presenters James Pickens NSW Telco Authority, Jan Ellsberger and Issam Toufik from ETSI, Puneet Jain, Peter Schmitt and Atle Monrad from 3GPP, and our own Board vice-chair Tero Pesonen and CEO Kevin Graham - who summed up the call to action: “Our industry needs to get involved at the standards level. If we want features for our space, we need to follow their progress through all stages of the 3GPP process.” Thanks to our Australasian Critical Communications Forum Limited for their organisation and support of the event. https://lnkd.in/ey7z-KbF
3GPP-TCCA Event 'Connection is the Lifeline'. Tuesday, Sept. 17, Melbourne. TCCA-Critical Communications and the Australasian Critical Communications Forum (ACCF) are to convene a one day event that will provide 3GPP with the opportunity to brief Australian and New Zealand governments, academia, and industry on the the Standards work of 3GPP, with a focus on Mission Critical, but also a broader look at how a variety of industry sectors are looking at 5G. When? September 17, 2024. Where? Melbourne Exhibition Convention Centre (F2F only, sorry - no remote participation). Full details here: https://lnkd.in/dKX9u7FN

The 3GPP Stage-1 Workshop on IMT2030 Use Cases concluded today with two standards specific presentations by the ITU and 3GPP, followed by a summary read-out of the Workshop. The presentations and summary are now available at https://lnkd.in/deitQD4J
A panel on 'Building a Global 6G' followed on from five presentations from regional/global research organizations during the second day of the 3GPP Workshop on IMT2030 Use Cases - hosted in Rotterdam, NL this week. Today's presenters represented: -Japan, B5G Promotion Consortium -South Korea, 6G Forum -China, IMT2030 Promotion Group -India, Bharat 6G Alliance -North America, Next G Alliance -Europe, 6G-SNS Their presentations will be online tonight, after the close of today's sessions. https://lnkd.in/deitQD4J
Day 1 presentations from the 3GPP Stage-1 Workshop on IMT2030 Use Cases are now up on the website: https://lnkd.in/deitQD4J Day 1 topics: Operators & Verticals: GSMA Proposal on 6G NGMN’s 6G Vision Automotive - 5GAA input to 3GPP Stage-1 workshop on IMT-2030 Use Cases Industry - 5G-ACIA, Considerations on 6G Use Cases & Requirements Multimedia - 5G-MAG: Views from 5G-MAG towards IMT-2030 Satellite - GSOA, NTN Evolution into 6G for IMT-2030 Use Cases Public Safety - TCCA, Can societies depend on 6G? Wireless Broadband Alliance, Next Generation of Access
In the first panel at the 3GPP Workshop on IMT2030 Use Cases, speakers from five Operators looked beyond the current work, to consider what the industry will look like in 2030.The topics raised included; the need for 'new value creation', Network sustainability & improving operators' carbon footprint, how 6G should deliver 'zero outages' for users and 'when can 4G sunset be expected?'. Next up, we have some of the Market Representation Partners (MRPs) in 3GPP, with their views on how the verticals' use cases will influence 6G, or perhaps how 6G will influence new use cases? https://lnkd.in/deitQD4J (Presentations will be available online from the above webpage soon after the event). #5G #6G #3gpp
The importance of getting the best from 5G was stressed in the first morning of presentations at the 3GPP Workshop on IMT2030 Use Cases. Specifically, the opening addresses by the GSMA and NGMN - in a session dedicated to the 'Operators' views' - both discussed how 5G's full potential being achieved will be a major factor in the future success of 6G. https://lnkd.in/dZebjuB2 (Presentations will be available online from the above webpage soon after the event).
CAPIF from Standards to Practice: Synergy between 3GPP, ETSI MEC and OpenCAPIF Webinar, online, free to attend, Apr 30 2024, 15:00 CEST The speakers, as key experts in the area, will present the latest achievements and alignments in standardization in ETSI. There will also be a presentation from 3GPP expert Abdessamad El Moatamid, covering an overview of the Common API Framework (CAPIF) defined for 3GPP Northbound and Application Layer APIs. Rel-18 (and planned Rel-19) enhancements will be presented - that will foster its reuse in the industry (e.g., by other SDOs and forums such as ETSI ISG MEC, etc.). https://lnkd.in/d_sTgV-7
