apache setup windows 2003 server?

Hi everyone,

 

Just today i installed apache 2 on my windows 2003 server (LAN), on the client if i typed http://192.168.1.1, it shows the index.html file works great.

 

But how do i call the index.html file if the user on the network typed http://localhost in their browser?

 

In my httpd.conf file i changed ServerName localhost, but still on the network, http://localhost doesn't work?

 

Any help is highly appreciated.

localhost refers to the local machine. You can't (or at least shouldn't) try and make localhost refer to another machine. You could edit you hosts file to do so, but there is no way I would recommend it. It could cause any number of issues.

You mean to say, i should open the hosts file on windows 2003 server and add

 

192.168.1.1 alpha

 

and than open the httpd.conf and add:

 

<VirtualHost 192.168.1.1>

DocumentRoot "C:\xyz\abc"

ServerName alpha

</VirtualHost>

 

Correct me if i am wrong please. i need this to be working today, so the users can access the files over the network when they type http://alpha in their browsers?
