As Ron DeSantis slated for football game with Donald Trump, bettors fade his Sec Def chances

DeSantis Trump
Drama continues about DeSantis' next move as the money moves away from him.

Did Florida’s Governor fumble his shot to run the Pentagon?

That’s what investors in a prominent prediction market seem to believe Saturday morning.

Per PolymarketRon DeSantis has fallen back behind Pete Hegseththe current Donald Trump nominee for Defense Secretary.

A DeSantis ‘Yes’ share is priced at 23 cents, with a Hegseth Yes at 43 cents.

DeSantis led in the betting market until Friday evening, with speculation swirling that he might replace the embattled former Fox News host as Trump’s pick for the job.

But Trump and others close to the President-elect have worked to make it clear that Hegseth is being given the ball to run with.

“It looks like Pete is doing well now,” Trump said during an interview with “Meet the Press.”

“We’ll be working on his nomination along with all the others,” Trump added.

Trump comms director Steven Cheung, who once called DeSantis a “desperate eunuch,” called Hegseth “the ONLY option” for the job.

Trump senior adviser Brian Hughes, who has a long history with DeSantis, volunteered that Hegseth is a “winner.”

Meanwhile, those close to the administration have speculated to Florida Politics that DeSantis was being trolled with the speculation, similar to how Utah’s Mitt Romney endured a quasi-audition for Secretary of State in Trump’s first term.

Whatever the case, DeSantis and Trump will be together next Saturday at the Army-Navy Football Game, as leaked Friday morning by someone close to the Governor.

It’s unusual for DeSantis to announce appearances more than a week before they happen.

The nomination process for the incoming administration has been fluid, as exemplified by the here-today-gone-tomorrow experiences of Matt Gaetz and Chad Chronister in brief auditions for Attorney General and Drug Enforcement Administration chiefs.

But while DeSantis may be the backup plan, it’s clear that after days of narrative turbulence, Hegseth is still the starter.

Will Dee with his one bronze star plant the flag in midfield at the Army-Navy game?

Or, Hegseth with his two bronze stars?

I’m fine with either one. They are two of the only one percenters that have served their country. I salute them in this Pearl Harbor Day.

How about the same respect on Pearl Harbor Day for Mayor Pete who served in a combat zone while in the reserves?

Maybe it’s just the vets I know but they hate that (their words, not mine) Thank you for your Service BS. The usual description is that it was a shitty time in their lives, the pay was lousy, they couldn’t leave and people kept trying to kill them. I think Pete Hegseth is completely unqualified but DeSantis could probably make a go of it for a few years until 2028 or he could just appoint himself to the senate.

I pray America’s Governor will finish his 2nd term, as he was re-elected in the greatest landslide in the history of modern Florida politics, and continue to lead the free state of Florida and not join the new Trump administration, at least until he and Florida’s First Family vacate the Governor’s Mansion in January 2027. He’s only 46 years old, and his future is bright in the Republican Party for decades to come. I also hope he does not appoint that carpetbagger from North Carolina to Rubio’s soon-to-be-open U.S. Senate seat and, instead, appoints Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñez to become Florida’s first female and first Cuban-American governor. That appointment will not only make history but add to America’s Governor’s laudable legacy of historically unprecedented achievements and cement him as the most effective Florida governor in the history of the Sunshine State.

    My first thought was….
Interesting President Trump invite’s DeSantis to a Navy Army football game…. Two very different teams representing two very different forms of training in the military….and yet we are one…. Some sort of meaning maybe???? Who knows.
I am unimpressed with DeSantis in the big picture. I do love his stance on pot and abortion however….
He protects “self” people. We have reached out to Tallahassee multiple times for assistance. Nope. Too many whispering in his ear and he forgot who he works for and who he needs to help. Sam Garrison, Bradley/Bean clan? Ethics??? No loads that have done nothing for our town or our military families. Come check out our local OPAA. What a joke. Our loved children deserve this mess? No way DeSantis. You missed our military boat. Retired 32 years Navy
    Retired 22 years Navy

Tell me again what you have done for the little old town of Orange Park? 3 miles from NAS Jax? 12% veterans and their families/kids.

Putting the kibosh on adults making reproductive choices for themselves and choosing whether or not to ingest pot — rather than just booze or ciggies, the USN favorites — is all you are getting from Ron. Period — unless you can make a monetary donation.

There are a few other people GRD could appoint to the Senate seat, and this should not be based on gender, race or ethnicity. The appointment should & must be based on merit, a solid record and a commitment to conservatism. Someone with resolve and possesses the fight inside them; who will not be influenced in the Swamp of the D.C. Senate.
