Experts concluded this at a presentation of the recent World Bank report, Migrating to Opportunity: Overcoming Barriers to
Labor Mobility in Southeast Asia in Bangkok.
The reason for the imminent import of so many qualified workers was the amendments to the Migration and
Labor Mobility Act adopted in early March.
Established in 2008, the Abu Dhabi Dialogue launched a collaborative approach to address development in temporary
labor mobility in Asia.
But these benefits are unlikely to accrue in full if agreements on
labor mobility for skilled workers are not implemented.
The session will discuss the experiences of Member States in the labor market flexibility and
labor mobility in the Gulf labor markets, and the problems of youth employment in the private sector.
"There are many malpractices such as illegal recruitment and trafficking in persons which affect
labor mobility, preying on the vulnerability of the public and migrant workers" said Cacdac.
