SPRINT – 2nd Edition 2014: Guideline Queen’s University Belfast
Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from Queen’s University, Belfast (QUB)
São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and Queen’s University, Belfast (QUB) signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research in June, 2014, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the Queen’s University Belfast and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint mobility and planning projects.
Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and QUB make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers, under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2nd Edition 2014 www.fapesp.br/en/8790 and hereinafter set forth.
1. Eligibility from QUB side
1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:
Academic staff at Queen’s University Belfast with a contract of employment for the full length of the proposed project
1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call
Researchers working within Queen’s University Belfast (academic staff, post-doctoral researchers, PhD students).
2. Fields of knowledge
This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The maximum duration of each project is 24 months.
4. Funding principles
FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of £5,000 (five thousand pounds) per proposal per year and QUB will provide funding of up to £5,000 (five thousand pounds) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause X of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties en/8736.
5. Proposal characteristics f or QUB researchers
5.1 A project description with a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, with one copy sent to QUB and another copy sent to FAPESP, including the following items:
5.1.1 Proposed exchange activities:
a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance;
b. A timeline for each specific exchange mission, considering the limit of missions and resources established in this Call;
c. Performance indicators for the planned activities;
d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;
e. Foreseen actions adding to the impact of the exchange for Partner Institution and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo (e.g. by means of seminars).
5.1.2 In addition to the above referred project description, the proposal for QUB must include the following items:
a. Details of how the proposed Mobility and Planning Project will lead to a collaborative research proposal to be submitted under the aegis of the RCUK/FAPESP MoU
6. Submission of proposals to QUB
Submissions will only be accepted by electronically. A single, combined pdf must be sent by email to Peter Stephenson no later than 5 pm, Monday 27th October 2014 ([email protected])
7. Result of the analysis
Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and QUB (http://www.qub.ac.uk/directorates/ResearchEnterprise) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.
8. Contract for selected projects by QUB
Selected proposals will subject to the conditions set forth in a letter of award.
Successful Queen’s applicants will be required to provide a brief annual report of their project, additional funding will be dependent upon submission and acceptance of this report. A template for the report will be provided by Queen’s
9. Grant cancellation
QUB may cancel funding of a Queen’s researcher, if a candidate fails to provide an adequate report as stipulated in the contract or if the Principal Investigator is adjudged to be in breach of any contractual obligations arising from their employment as a Queen’s member of staff
