SPRINT 4th Edition 2017: Guidelines University of Missouri (MU)
Specific requests for proposal submissions from researchers of the University of Missouri (MU)

FAPESP and the University of Missouri (MU), signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on March 18th, 2016, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from MU, United States of America, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and MU make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 4th Edition 2017 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42017) and hereinafter set forth.
1. Eligibility from MU side
1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:
a. All tenured, tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty in the IPG with ongoing research projects funded by private or public programs are eligible to apply.
b. MU will accept only one proposal per MU faculty member.
1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:
a. The team members of the ongoing research projects described in 1.1.a. are eligible for the exchange activities within the scope of this call. Team members include:
i. Principal or Co-Principal Investigators;
ii. Post-doctoral fellows;
iii. PhD students.
b. Considering the principle of reciprocity, FAPESP exceptionally may either support PhD students from the State of São Paulo to take part in the scientific missions. In this case, the PhD student(s) must have an ongoing FAPESP fellowship during the planned exchange mission to the partner institution.
Note:

The proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.

Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 4.2 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42017).
2. Fields of knowledge
This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge represented by IPG (Interdisciplinary Plant Group https://ipg.missouri.edu/faculty) faculty.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The duration of each project is 12 months. With exceptional justification such as the need for two field seasons, a one-time renewal for 12 months can be applied for MU and FAPESP.

5. Funding principles
FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of US$ 5,000.00 (five thousand dollars) per proposal per year and MU will provide funding of up to US$ 5,000.00 (five thousand dollars) per proposal per year, for a maximum of five (5) concurrently funded proposals, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/10581).
6. Proposal characteristics for MU researchers
The proposal shall be composed of:
6.1 A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at MU. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to MU. The Research Project must include the items included in the item 6.1 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42017.
6.2 The following additional documents required by MU:
a. Budget sheet
b. Letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.3 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42017. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature.
7. Submission of proposals to MU
Submissions will only be accepted in the form of a single PDF file in which all documents have been merged, and can only be submitted by emailing this PDF file with SPRINT_FAPESP_MU in the subject line to [email protected].
8. Result of the analysis
Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and IPG (www.ipg.missouri.edu) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.
9. Contract for selected projects by MU
Selected proposals will be subject to the conditions set forth in the letter of award.
10. Grant cancellation
MU may cancel funding of an MU researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, at the discretion of the program directors, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
