FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Federation of Business and Professional Women of Cyprus (BPW Cyprus) has raised alarm over the widening gender pay gap in Cyprus.
Recent Eurostat data shows the gap increased from 11.9% to 12.2%, meaning women earn only 88 cents for every euro earned by men.
BPW Cyprus highlights structural issues, such as underrepresentation in leadership, unpaid care work, and persistent stereotypes, as key contributors.
The federation urges the State, employers, and social partners to adopt measures like workplace equality policies, greater transparency, and support for women in leadership roles.
As part of its efforts, BPW Cyprus continues its nationwide campaign advocating for equal pay and rigorous enforcement of legislation to eliminate pay disparities.
This year’s campaign includes targeted television and online messaging.
The Federation emphasizes that equal pay is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
