Ryan Seacrest to host Wheel of Fortune after Pat Sajak retires

"I'm truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak," Seacrest tweeted following the announcement.

Wheel of Fortune has solved its hosting puzzle.

On Tuesday, Sony Pictures Television announced that Ryan Seacrest has signed a multi-year agreement to host the beloved game show after longtime host Pat Sajak retires in 2024. In addition to his hosting duties, Seacrest will also serve as a consulting producer on the series.

"I'm truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak," Seacrest tweeted following the announcement. "I can say, along with the rest of America, that it's been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them."

Seacrest also took a moment to shower his predecessor with nothing but praise. "Pat, I love the way you've always celebrated the contestants and made viewers at home feel at ease," he wrote. "I look forward to learning everything I can from you during this transition."

He concluded, "Many people probably don't know this but one of my first jobs was hosting a little game show called 'Click' for Merv Griffin 25 years ago so this is truly a full circle moment for me and I'm grateful to Sony for the opportunity. I can't wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White."

Sajak tweeted his support for Seacrest on Wednesday, writing, "I'm looking forward to my final season starting this fall, and then handing over the car keys to Ryan Seacrest in September of 2024."

Earlier this month, Sajak announced that he would be stepping down as host after Wheel of Fortune's 41st season, which will begin airing in September. However, Sajak isn't checking out of the building just yet, and will remain on board the series as a consultant for three years.

"It's been a wonderful ride, and I'll have more to say in the coming months," Sajak, who hosted the show for over 40 years, wrote in a social media statement. "Many thanks to you all."

While Sajak is preparing to spin the wheel one last time, it was revealed last week that White is still in the process of negotiating to remain as the show's title-turning co-host, but that no official deal had been reached at this time.
