Al Roker returns to Today with 'terrific news' on prostate cancer treatment

Earlier this month, Roker, 66, revealed on Today that he had been diagnosed with "a little aggressive" prostate cancer. Since then, he underwent surgery at New York City's Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to remove his prostate and "several lymph nodes." Roker said he was back at home with wife, Deborah Roberts, and son, Nick, the very next day. "And the day after that, I was back out[side] and walking," he added.

Roker's doctor, Vincent Laudone, appeared on Today with his patient to confirm "everything looks very favorable" at this point, "based on how the surgery went and based on his pathology report." He noted, "We would say that Al has no evidence of any cancer, but we will continue to monitor him for several years."

Roker now hopes to be back to work on Today by this coming Monday and again for the Thanksgiving Day Parade coverage on Nov. 26.

"We're not out of the woods, but for a first start this is terrific news," Roker said. "I'm going to be up for, as a lot of people who deal with cancer, lifelong testing to make sure this doesn't come back."

In the meantime, Roker continues using this experience to help better inform the public about prostate cancer and the importance of early screenings.
