Cast and creator of Younger tease an even more dramatic season in exclusive clip

Season 6 of Younger is less than two months away and apparently, it’s not slowing down at all in its old age.

In an exclusive video, the cast of the hit TV Land show sit down for a table read of scenes from upcoming episodes, and it seems like eager viewers are going to be getting some answers pretty early in the season.

Fans will remember that season 5 ended with Charles (Peter Hermann) stepping down from his book publishing company Empirical, partly to be with Liza (Sutton Foster) and also to avoid any scandal their relationship might cause. But in the couple’s final scene of the season, they didn’t look altogether excited about finally being together in the open. “There’s a lot of drama this season, probably more than any other season,” say series creator Darren Star. “Charles and Liza’s relationship gets a lot more real…This relationship has a new set of issues as it grows in this season.”

From the clip, it seems that one of those issues is in the bedroom…but it’s not quite as bad as you think. As part of the table read, Foster and Hermann read lines in which the latter complains about the uncomfortableness of Liza’s bed. “It’s somewhat child-sized,” he complains. Although, as it transpires, there’s a slightly saucier reason for the neck pain he’s experiencing.

The other big cliffhanger from last season was the bombshell that Josh (Nico Tortorella) might be a father when his ex showed up on his doorstep heavily pregnant. “I couldn’t believe that that was a part of the end of season 5,” says Foster. “I think it’s amazing that Josh could potentially be a dad.” While Foster’s on board with the storyline, Maggie (Debi Mazar) has doubts as to whether Josh is for sure the father and suggests a paternity test.

Elsewhere, Hilary Duff’s Kelsey appears to be struggling a little with being the new boss since Charles’ departure and fears that she’s being set up to fail. “I think she’s going to feel the weight of her responsibility,” says Star. “This season goes deeper into some of the workplace drama; certainly how it affects everybody’s relationships with each other.”

Amidst all that drama, one high note to look out for is more musical moments from Miriam Shor’s Diana. “I’m going to be singing again which makes me feel like maybe my parents called Darren Star and were like, ‘We want her to sing again! We loved it,'” jokes the actress, who is also set to direct the show’s July 10th episode.

“The world of Younger is more exciting than ever,” concludes Foster. “In season 6 the stakes are so high; so many of our characters have finally gotten what they wished for but is it exactly what they thought? Is it exactly what they wanted?”
