Armageddon is imminent, and quippy, in the Good Omens trailer

The Amazon series starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant premieres on May 31

“Armageddon is days away, and we’ve lost the Antichrist.”

Michael Sheen and David Tennant star as a persnickety Angel and a rock-and-roll Demon, respectively, who decide to pair up to save Earth from the Biblical end times. But unfortunately, due to a mix-up at the hospital, the child they thought was the Antichrist is actually now just a normal 11-year-old boy. And the Antichrist is, well, missing.

“It’s such a unique world that [Neil Gaiman] and Terry [Pratchett] have created,” Tennant previously told EW. “If anyone else had taken it on, I don’t think we could have captured the real quirky essence of it.”

Good Omens is based on the 1990 cult-classic novel by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. The adaptation stars Jon Hamm (as a purple-eyed Angel Gabriel), Nick Offerman, and Jack Whitehall. Gaiman serves as the series showrunner.

The trailer above offers plenty of glimpses of pyrotechnics befitting the end times, including a first look at the devil himself, seemingly rising up from the ground. Last month, it was announced that Satan would be played by Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch.

Judging by the state of the news these days, it’s impossible to tell if the Angel and Demon duo actually will stop the end of the world, but we’ll be able to see for ourselves when the show drops on Amazon, May 31.
