Don Cheadle, Andrew Rannells to star in Seth Rogen-directed Showtime pilot

It’s Showtime, again, for Don Cheadle.

Just over a year after concluding a five season run on House of Lies, the Golden Globe winner is returning to the network for the comedy pilot Ball Street. Cheadle will costar in the prospective series with Grammy winner and Girls scene-stealer Andrew Rannells.

The series hails from co-creators and co-showrunners David Caspe (Happy Endings) and Jordan Cahan (My Best Friend’s Girl). Also onboard are Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who will direct the pilot and serve as executive producers. The This Is the End duo have recently been making their footprint in television as part of the creative teams on AMC’s Preacher and Hulu’s Future Man.

Ball Street focuses on Oct. 19, 1987, the day of the worst stock market crash in Wall Street’s history — a.k.a. Black Monday. The potential series follows a group of outsiders who “ended up crashing the world’s largest financial system, a Lamborghini limousine, Don Henley’s birthday party, and the glass ceiling.”

“When the global economy incinerates itself, people always wonder why. Ball Street is a dream project rising from the ashes of that disaster,” said Showtime president David Nevins. “In Don Cheadle and Andrew Rannells, we have two of the most dynamic performers in the world today – the question is which one of them lit the match. With Seth, Evan, David and Jordan at the helm, we are primed for the launch of something memorable.”
