The comedy has been canceled by ABC, EW has confirmed. Samm Hodges, co-creator and voice of the show’s dog Martin, announced on Twitter Friday that the network won’t be renewing the freshman series. The final two episodes will air back-to-back on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET. “Well, s—. Got the very surprising news that ABC is not moving forward with Downward Dog,” he wrote in a statement from him and fellow co-creator Michael Killen. “They loved it creatively and really wanted to make more, but couldn’t find a financial path to do so. That’s not a bulls— PR statement, that’s true, and we are deeply personally thankful to them for putting this first season on the air and allowing us to make something really unique and uncompromising.” Despite the cancellation, Hodges insists they’ll seek a new home for the comedy. “Obviously this is a hard moment, but we’re not done,” he continued. “The crazy amazing love you the fans have shown for DD combined with the critical response makes us confident that there is a future and we are committed to finding a new home.” The comedy follows the close relationship of Nan (Fargo‘s Allison Tolman) and her very talkative dog Martin. Lucas Neff, Barry Rothbart, and Kirby-Howell Baptiste also star.
