Archer stars reveal how they want the show to end

How does Lucky Yates want spy comedy Archer to end? That’s the question we recently put to the actor who plays deranged scientist and probable Hitler clone Krieger on the animated show, the eighth season of which premieres on FXX tonight at 10 p.m. ET.

And, boy, did he have an answer!

“I want Krieger to blow up the planet, just like at the end of Return to the Planet of the Apes,” said the actor (who actually meant 1970’s Beneath the Planet of the Apes), in the course of an interview for Sirius XM’s Entertainment Weekly channel. “Just hitting a big red button in an underground society that are praising a nuclear weapon.”

Meanwhile, actress Amber Nash had a rather less apocalyptic ending in mind for her Archer character, the HR-unfriendly HR officer, Pam Poovey. “I think Pam should walk off into the sunset like Bruce Banner, right?” said the actress.

Finally, the great Jessica Walter had a very interesting suggestion for how the story of her character, spy boss (and mother-of-Sterling-Archer) Malory Archer, should conclude.

“I would like the father of Archer to be revealed,” said the Arrested Development actress. “And the three of them walk off into the sunset — in front of Poovey.”

“And then Krieger hits a big red button!” added Yates. “And that sunset turns into a mushroom cloud!”
