The West End production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash hit took home seven prizes at the Olivier Awards — Britain’s equivalent of Broadway’s Tony Awards — on Sunday night. The musical, the most-nominated production in Olivier history with 13 in all, received awards for Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical for Giles Terera’s role as Aaron Burr, and Outstanding Achievement in Music. Other winners at this year’s Olivier Awards included Angels in America, which won for Best Play Revival. Bryan Cranston also won the Olivier for Best Actor in a Play for Network. Last year’s Olivier Awards saw a record nine wins for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which, like Angels in America, has now transferred to Broadway (and will be eligible for this year’s Tony Awards, which announce nominations next month).
