Theater John Leguizamo's one man play Latin History for Morons will move to Broadway The show starts previews in October By Eric King Published on August 23, 2017 11:52AM EDT After an off-Broadway run at The Public Theater in New York City, John Leguizamo’s one-man comedy about a dad teaching his son oft-overlooked and buried Latin history is coming to Broadway. Producers Nelle Nugent and Kenneth Teaton announced Wednesday that Latin History for Morons will play a limited engagement at Studio 54 starting in October. Leguizamo is a veteran of the one man format with five other solo ventures under his belt including Ghetto Klown and Freak, which both also made it to Broadway with critical acclaim. The Colombian-American actor (famous for his portrayal of Drag Queen Chi-Chi in To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar Latin History for Morons) has always explored themes of Latin culture, family, and history in his work, and his most recent is no exception, showing forgotten Latin heroes and contributions from throughout history. The play, directed by Tony Taccone, has also been received off-Broadway. Of Leguizamo’s performance, EW’s Alison Adato says in her review, “Although he is a master of characters, Leguizamo digs deepest playing himself as he aims to be both a role model to his kids and someone they can love as an imperfect human.” The show begins previews Oct. 19, officially opening Nov. 15 and running through Feb, 4.
