Taylor Swift breaks Grammy record for most Album of the Year wins of any artist

Karma really is her boyfriend.

Taylor Swift brought her big reputation and then some to the 2024 Grammy Awards.

The superstar's 10th official studio album, Midnights, won the Album of the Year award on Sunday, officially breaking her tie with Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Frank Sinatra and making her the only artist to win the coveted honor four times. When she earned the award in 2021 for Folklore, she became the first woman to win three times, after her previous albums Fearless and 1989 took home the prize.

Upon accepting the honor from surprise presenter Celine Dion, Swift thanked her collaborators on the album, including her "once in a generation producer" Jack Antonoff. She also gave a shoutout to "legend" Lana Del Rey, who collaborated on Midnights track "Snow on the Beach" (she sweetly pulled the singer on stage with her).

Getting reflective, she added, "I would love to tell you this is the best moment of my life but I feel this happy when I finish a song or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love or when I'm shot-listing a music video, or when I'm rehearsing with my dancers or my band or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show. For me, the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy. It makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award, too. All I want to do is keep doing this, so thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do what I love so much."

Midnights beat out a stacked list of contenders, including Jon Batiste's World Music Radio, Boygenius' The Record, Miley Cyrus' Endless Summer Vacation, Lana Del Rey's Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, Janelle Monáe's The Age of Pleasure, Olivia Rodrigo's Guts, and SZA's SOS for the award.

Proving that karma really is her boyfriend, Swift went into the night with six nominations, winning two — she also took home the trophy for Best Pop Vocal Album, and she took that opportunity to announce her surprise new album, The Tortured Poets Department.

The "Anti-Hero" singer has broken numerous records recently. Swift ended 2023 by breaking Elvis Presley's record for the most weeks spent at No. 1 by a solo artist on the Billboard 200 album chart. And in December, Pollstar announced that her Eras Tour is the highest-grossing tour ever and the first to crack $1 billion, with an estimated $1.04 billion in total ticket gross so far. Projections show that her 2024 international dates will add another billion-plus to that total.

It's been a long time coming, but Miss Americana will soon hit the road again for those international dates, starting her run in Tokyo on Wednesday.
