Sofía Vergara will ‘recycle’ her Joe Manganiello tattoo

It’s way more elegant than “Wino Forever.”

Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello may have split up, but the Modern Family star has found a clever way of keeping a tattoo of her ex.

In an interview with The Talk, the Griselda star said she only has two tattoos: one with the initial of her late brother on her left wrist, and the letter J on her right wrist. “This was Joe Manganiello’s initial,” Vergara explained. “But now he's gone.” The audience burst into applause.

But Vergara still plans to keep the tattoo thanks to a fortunate coincidence. “How lucky can I be that the guy I'm going out [with] has the same initial?” she says of her new boyfriend, Dr. Justin Saliman. “Recycle, recycle,” she joked.

Vergara and Manganiello began dating in 2014 after Vergara's Modern Family costar Jesse Tyler Ferguson introduced them at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. They were engaged by the end of that year and married in November 2015. The couple announced their separation last July, and finalized their divorce in February.

"We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the ex-couple said in a statement announcing the split. "As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”

Vergara and Saliman, an orthopedic surgeon, were first linked in October 2023, according to PEOPLE.

Before talking about her own tattoos, Vergara lamented her son Manolo Gonzalez Vergara’s ink obsession. When asked how many tattoos he’s accrued thus far, Manolo said, "Cover your ears. I think like 34 by this point." Disappointed (and not covering her ears), his mom responded, "Stop it. I'm leaving."

"I'm a tattoo person,” Manolo said. “You know, it's like a journal."

"A journal of what?  I gave him this beautiful you know, like Latin dark skin, and now you can't see anything. You can't see it,” Sofía said. “You just see those little things there."
