Jason Bateman wins SAG Award for Best Actor in a TV Drama

Crime does pay, at least for Jason Bateman.

The Ozark star took home the trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night.

Bateman used his acceptance speech to pay tribute to struggling actors and to assure them that they are all one job away from making it. "For me, it was Arrested Development," he said. "I'm very, very grateful for that show, and I just want to say to the people that are at home and not working as they want, you're just one job away, you're plenty talented, and hang in there."

Ozark stars Bateman, 50, as Marty Byrde, a financial planner who moves his wife (Laura Linney) and two kids to the Lake of the Ozarks in order to launder $8 million for a drug lord. As you can imagine, things spin out of control from there. The show's second season, which debuted in the fall, followed the family as it dove deeper in the world of crime. The series has been renewed for a third season.

In addition to acting, Bateman executive-produces and often directs Ozark. "He's very concentrated when he's directing," Linney previously told EW of having the Arrested Development alum as a director. "He's very focused. And time is valuable. He doesn't rush the time and he doesn't squander time." Comparatively, "When he's just acting, he's a little looser, as you have to be. It's a slightly different energy."

Bateman beat out Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid's Tale), John Krasinski (Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan), and Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul)
