EW's editorial guidelines Published on January 30, 2016 12:00PM EST Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images Queen Latifah scored her third SAG Award on Saturday night with a win in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries category, for her role as Bessie Smith in HBO’s Bessie. “I’m in shock right now,” she said in her acceptance speech. “Thank you so much!” Latifah added, “I hope that anyone out there who does not come in the package people say you should. Keep fighting for it. Flip those rocks over. Keep pushing, keep turning. You can do it. You build your own boxes, not people. So knock that thing away, and do you!” Latifah hit the high notes as the titular Empress of the Blues in the biopic, which followed the singer’s difficult life as she evolved from a struggling vocalist to a legendary icon throughout the 1920s. Directed by Dee Rees, the film also featured Michael Kenneth Williams and Mo’Nique. via GIPHY The actress previously won a SAG Award in 2008 for her role in the TV movie Life Support, as well as a trophy alongside the ensemble cast of Chicago in 2003. This year, she beat out fellow nominees Nicole Kidman (Grace of Monaco), Christina Ricci (The Lizzie Borden Chronicles), Susan Sarandon (The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe), and Kristen Wiig (The Spoils Before Dying).
