Rumer Willis says she's 'really missing' dad Bruce amid dementia diagnosis

The actress shared a throwback photo with her famous dad, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia earlier this year.

Rumer Willis is "really missing" her dad Bruce Willis amid his dementia diagnosis.

The daughter of the actor and his ex-wife Demi Moore shared a throwback photo with her papa on Instagram, sharing the sentiments in the caption.

Willis' family — also comprised of daughters Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, and Evelyn and his second wife Emma — first shared last year that he was stepping away from acting following an aphasia diagnosis, which progressed and became a more specific diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia.

According to the National Institute on Aging, frontotemporal dementia results from damage to neurons in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, with symptoms that include "unusual behaviors, emotional problems, trouble communicating, difficulty with work, or difficulty with walking."

While acknowledging that the diagnosis is "painful," Willis' family expressed "relief to finally have a clear diagnosis."

"Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead," they said. "As Bruce's condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research."

Willis' daughter Tallulah recently appeared on Drew Barrymore's eponymous talk show this month and shared an update on her father's health. "He is the same, which I think in this regard I've learned is the best thing you can ask for," she said. "I see love when I'm with him. And it's my dad and he loves me, which is really special."

She also said she's become "an archeologist to my dad's world" by archiving all of his "little trinkets and doodads," which has helped her healing journey. The pair spend time together by listening to music and "sitting in that energy of love," she said. "It's really special."
