Paul Giamatti continues award season In-N-Out Burger tour: 'I didn't think my week could get any better'

Giamatti's burger journey may not be slowing down any time soon as he heads into the Emmys.

Paul Giamatti is working through awards season animal style.

The actor went viral on social media last week after he was photographed at an In-N-Out Burger with his Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy. On Sunday, he won another best actor award, this time at the Critics Choice Awards for his performance in Alexander Payne's The Holdovers. And In-N-Out came up again.

"Wow, guys," he began during his acceptance speech. "I didn't think my week could get any better than going viral for eating a cheeseburger. Serious, guys, I need that endorsement. So, let's all just pray for me."

After the awards show, Giamatti joked with reporters that he would be heading to the West Coast fast food chain again, but "staying in the car" this time.

The post Globes photo went viral on social media when a slew of fans noted how the moment was life imitating art, recounting the scene where Giamatti's Sideways character Miles indulged in a greasy fast food dinner while sipping from his coveted bottle of 1961 Cheval Blanc – wine he planned to save for a special occasion.

His tour of awards show adjacent In-N-Out Burgers might not yet be at an end. Oscar nominations will be announced before the month is out, and the Sideways star continues to pile up accolades for his performance in The Holdovers.

However, Giamatti is hardly the first person to celebrate personal victories with a little In-N-Out. Al Yankovic recently took his new Emmy for a burger, Ang Lee indulged in a burger while holding his Oscar, and Aziz Ansari took his Golden Globe to dinner back in 2018. Though, that's hardly a complete list of statuettes that have dropped by the chain.
