Taylor Swift performs new reputation song 'New Year's Day' on TGIT — watch now!

Taylor Swift returned to the mic Thursday night.

Marking her first performance of a new song in three years, the pop star sang “New Year’s Day” during ABC’s TGIT block. Her first television appearance in support of reputation came mere hours before the album’s release Friday morning.

“There’s glitter on the floor after the party,” Swift sang while playing the piano. “Girls carrying their shoes down in the lobby/Candle wax and Polaroids on the hardwood floor/You and me from the night before.”

She later revisited the opening verse, swapping “from the night before” to “forevermore,” signaling the growth of a relationship throughout the track. Seemingly inspired by Swift’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn, the heartfelt tune proves Swift can still deliver a beautiful ballad with limited instrumentation.

“New Year’s Day” appears as the final song on the album, which drops at midnight on Friday.

Watch the performance of “New Year’s Day” above, and gear up for more Swift performances this weekend — the hitmaker will serve as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
