The Drake & Josh star revealed on a recent episode of his Great Guys podcast that he actually got "close" to playing Edward Cullen in the beloved vampire romance saga before the role went to Robert Pattinson. "I remember it's like 2006? 7?" Peck told his cohost, Ben Soffer, and their guest, Taylor Lautner. "They're like, 'Audition for this movie Twilight. It's based on a book — it's gonna be great.' So I send in my tape... [for] Edward." The audition, apparently, was well received. "A month later, I'm with my manager. He goes, 'It's down to you and three guys. You're close,'" Peck recalled. "I'm like, 'Really?' I hadn't even had a tummy tuck yet! I'm like, 'There's no way. He's gotta be so shirtless. It's not gonna happen.'" "Spoiler alert," Peck joked. "Didn't get it." Instead, Pattinson won out in the end to become the mind-reading member of the Cullen family. The Batman actor would go on to play the lead vamp in all five of the hugely successful films — which were inspired by Stephenie Meyer's popular novels — starring opposite Kristen Stewart, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, and Billy Burke. Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images; Deana Newcomb/Summit When Peck finally saw Pattinson's performance as Edward, he was taken aback that his audition got him so far into the casting process. "I'm like, 'In what f---ing world were they like, "Okay, here's what we're thinking: Chris Hemsworth or Stanley Tucci?"'" he said. "Like what the f---? Impossible!" "That's amazing," Lautner replied. "I did not know that. Holy crap." But Peck may have a second chance at becoming Forks' famous glittering vampire. After all, Lionsgate confirmed earlier this year that a Twilight television series is currently in development. Listen to Peck look back on his ill-fated Twilight audition in the clip above.
