That's according to Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige. The Oscar winner is glowing with cosmic energy in a new batch of 10 posters for Captain Marvel. Set in the '90s before the events of the first Iron Man, this human-Kree warrior battles a secret war against the shapeshifting Skrulls looking to invade Earth. 02 of 10 Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) Marvel Studios Maria Rambeau is Carol's comrade in the Air Force. That is, if Carol can remember. As a member of Starforce, an elite strike team for the Kree race, Carol doesn't remember much about her life on earth before she received her powers. "Maria’s got a strength that’s undeniable, in that you don’t feel like you need to help her,” Lynch tells EW. “She is thrown into many a situation in this movie that she’s never been a part of, never seen, never experienced — and she just learns it, immediately. She’s very resilient and very strong.” 03 of 10 Starforce Leader (Jude Law) Marvel Studios There seems to be somover the true identity of Jude Law's character, but for now we'll refer to him as leader of Starforce. “He is driven by a belief in the divine leadership of the Kree people,” Law says. “So he’s almost a devout warrior — unquestioning, conservative, but inspirational.” 04 of 10 Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) Marvel Studios Before he rose to the top levels of S.H.I.E.L.D., before S.H.I.E.L.D. was disbanded following the Winter Soldier business with Hydra, before he lost his eye even, Nick Fury was more of "a bureaucrat" than expionage expert, according to Samuel L. Jackson. "He hadn’t become jaded or a slave to the cynicism that we normally see. He sort of respects the people that are above him, more so than the Nick Fury that people are used to." His meeting with Carol becomes his introduction to the world of superheroes. 05 of 10 Goose Marvel Studios Here's the real star of Captain Marvel, Carol's cat Goose. In the comics, the feline goes by the name Chewie as a reference to Star Wars. The cat was also secretly a Flerken, an alien creature that happens to look like cats of earth. In the movie, the name change lends itself to all the Top Gun references that abound. 06 of 10 Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan) Marvel Studios The star of Crazy Rich Asians becomes a crazy cool sniper as Minn-Erva, another member of Starforce. 07 of 10 Korath (Djimon Honsou) Marvel Studios Before Korath sided with Lee Pace's Ronan the Accuser (who also returns for Captain Marvel) in Guardians of the Galaxy, he too was a member of Starforce fighting alongside Carol. Perhaps we'll see how he became a sympathizer of religious zealouts. 08 of 10 Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) Marvel Studios Another familiar face — and Captain America's biggest fan — returns to the big screen through de-aging CGI magic. 09 of 10 Mystery character (Annette Bening) Marvel Studios We still don't know exactly who Annette Bening is playing in Captain Marvel. What we do know is that she's Kree. She mentions in the trailers how her people found Carol with no memories and remade her as one of them, bestowing her powers and a longer lifespan. Speculate wildly! 10 of 10 Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) Marvel Studios There's something about Agent Fury's boss at S.H.I.E.L.D. that's not quite right. Maybe it's because he's really one of those green-skinned Skrulls who infiltrated the top-secret government organization. Could that be it?
