A Star Is Born returning to theaters with new Lady Gaga music, footage

Following Lady Gaga’s first Oscar victory Sunday for her work on A Star Is Born, the Bradley Cooper-directed romance about a budding pop star (Gaga) who falls for an unsteady country superstar (Cooper) is heading back to theaters with new music and 12 minutes of new footage for one week only.

Warner Bros. announced Wednesday the blockbuster drama — which grossed $211 million across its original big-screen run — will expand to over 1,150 screens across North American this Friday, and will feature extended performances of the opening number “Black Eyes,” “Alibi,” and Gaga’s a cappella parking lot performance of “Shallow.”

A scene featuring the Gaga-penned ballad “Is That Alright?” has also been added into the film for the theatrical re-release, as has footage of Jackson Maine (Cooper) singing “Too Far Gone.” While both of those tracks appear on the film’s No. 1-debuting original soundtrack, a new, previously unreleased song titled “Clover” is included in this special version of the film.

“It’s something we can both get over / Oh I still believe in love,” Ally sings in the teaser (above) as she sits across from a guitar-strumming Jackson on an empty stage. Her partner continues: “Time goes by / I’ll keep winning, keep losing until I die / Rain falls down / And I’ll catch every drop this time around.”

Ahead of A Star Is Born‘s theatrical encore, Gaga and Cooper performed the film’s signature hit “Shallow” (co-written by Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Mark Wyatt) for the first time together on television at Sunday’s 91st Academy Awards. The pair took to the stage for an intimate, piano-driven rendition of the song that reached the top five on the American charts late last year.

Prior to receiving eight Oscar nominations in January, A Star Is Born reaped positive critical reviews on the festival circuit, with Cooper’s performance as well as Gaga’s first leading role in a major movie earning particular praise from critics.

A Star Is Born expands to more theaters across North America for one week beginning Friday. Watch Gaga and Cooper singing “Clover” in a new scene from the movie in the clip above.
