As anyone who’s been on a movie set can tell you, not everything goes according to plan during filming. Sometimes an actor will improvise a line. Sometimes you can’t put the camera where you wanted. And sometimes, as Couch Surfing host Lola Ogunnaike puts it, “you take a beatin’ from Diane Keaton.”

In the latest episode of the PeopleTV show, actress Marcia Gay Harden reveals that Keaton actually whacked her on the head while shooting a scene for The First Wives Club.

“She was supposed to just kind of fake hit me in the head,” the Oscar and Tony-winning actress says of Keaton, before a clip from the film clearly shows Harden getting a good smack with a foam bat. “She really hit me! I don’t think I was supposed to take [the bat] away from her, and I did.”

Still, Harden seems to harbor no ill will toward Keaton, or to fellow First Wives Club stars Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler, for that matter.

“For me, they were legends,” Harden says, adding that she was “in awe” of the trio.
