It, the new Stephen King-based movie from director Andy Muschietti, is getting even more clowns-only screenings in New York, Arizona, and more, courtesy of Alamo Drafthouse. The movie theater chain made a chilling announcement last week — the Austin theater would hold a special screening of the horror film for anyone who comes dressed as a clown. Apparently, patrons took to this idea. More of these events have been scheduled for Drafthouse locations in Brooklyn and Yonkers, New York; Dallas, New Braunfels, Laredo, and San Antonio, Texas; Omaha, Nebraska; and Phoenix, Arizona. (Times vary depending on the location.) This latest adaptation also features Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Nicholas Hamilton. Critics attending earlier screenings called It “truly terrifying” and “scary as s—.” Now imagine what this will be like watching with a bunch of hellish jesters. Alamo Drafthouse previously held women-only screenings for Wonder Woman, which may have sparked the clowns-only screening idea, in a way. Amid the flurry of sexist comments littering the theater chain’s Facebook feed was one user asking if it meant they’d do something like a men-only screening for Thor: Ragnarok or a clowns-only screening for It. “We might actually have to steal that clown idea,” Drafthouse responded. It will hit theaters on Sept. 8.
