When Tom Holland puts on the Spidey suit for this summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, he’ll become the third actor to play Peter Parker on the big screen. But Peter is no longer the only version of Spider-Man. EW has confirmed that The Get Down star Shameik Moore will play the Miles Morales version of the character in an upcoming animated film from Sony, due in theaters Dec. 21, 2018. The Hollywood Reporter was first to post the news.

The still-untitled Spider-Man feature was executive-produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, Han Solo) and written by Lord. Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey will co-direct the project. Liev Schreiber has also been cast as the villain of the story, though his character’s identity is still under wraps.

Miles Morales was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli for Marvel’s Ultimate imprint in 2011; he took up the mantle of Spider-Man after that universe’s Peter Parker was killed in action. Miles was such a popular character that he survived the demise of the Ultimate line and got fully integrated into Marvel’s mainstream continuity in the wake of the 2015 crossover Secret Wars. He now fights crime alongside Peter Parker and other young heroes like the Champions.
