Kelsey Grammer's daughter Greer will play Roz's daughter Alice on Frasier season 2

"Frasier" is suddenly "All in the Family."

That tossed salad and scrambled eggs is becoming a family affair. Next season on Paramount+'s rebooted Frasier, Kelsey Grammer's daughter is joining the cast as Roz Doyle's daughter, first introduced in the original series.

According to Variety, Greer Grammer will play Alice, now in her late-20s and just as "friendly," "outgoing," and "free-spirited" as Roz, played by Peri Gilpin. Of course, being friendly and free-spirited is what led to Roz getting pregnant with Alice in the first place.

Gilpin had a popular guest star stint last season on Frasier (which, like grandfather series Cheers, is set in Boston) and in season 2, she's back as a recurring guest with Roz contemplating leaving Seattle. Meanwhile, Alice has just moved to Providence to study architecture. The younger Doyle is eager to catch up with Frasier's son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) and complicate whatever romantic plans he may have, " as per the character description.

Reps for Frasier did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In the fifth season of the OG Frasier, Roz gets pregnant after a brief fling with a 20-year-old college student. She decides to raise the baby on her own as a single mother, something that was still a bit controversial in the late '90s on television. In the final seasons of Frasier, Alice was portrayed by Ashley Thomas.

Though Kelsey Grammer stressed to Variety that he never pressured any of his kids to follow in his Hollywood footsteps, most of them did anyway. Greer made her acting debut in 2010 on iCarly and went on to have a recurring role on MTV's teen dramedy Awkward from 2011-2016.

Gilpin discussed reprising the role in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year, in which she said she was open to returning as Roz.

"I just loved getting to do it," Gilpin said. "It was a fantasy come true to play that part again and to go back into that world. And there's bittersweet things because it makes me so sad when I think about John [Mahoney, who died in 2018]. I miss him. He was a great friend, but I feel like they dealt with that."

Grammer, for his part, has frequently expressed interest in bringing more of the Frasier/Cheers family in on the action, with particular hopes of wooing Shelley Long back to give some closure to the decades-old relationship between Frasier and Diane Chambers. As for his actual family, Grammer's got seven kids so it's going to be a challenge finding roles for all of them, should they be interested.
