Succession star Alan Ruck walks Golden Globes red carpet with cane after knee surgery

A source close to the actor said his use of the cane was unrelated to a recent car accident.

Succession star Alan Ruck was sporting a cane on the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet.

A source close to the actor — who was nominated Sunday for Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Television Series — told EW that Ruck was using the cane as a result of a recent knee replacement surgery, and that it was unrelated to an October car accident.

At the 81st annual awards ceremony, Ruck, who played eldest son Connor Roy on all four seasons of Succession, lost out to his costar Matthew Macfadyen, who played his brother-in-law Tom Wambsgans.

Ruck's Globes outing marked one of his most high-profile public appearances since he was involved in a multi-car collision in Hollywood on Halloween night, which allegedly damaged three vehicles before his own plowed into a pizza restaurant.

Ruck, 67, has since been sued by a fellow driver, Horacio Vela, who claims to have suffered "severe injuries and damages." In a complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and reviewed by EW, Vela alleged that Ruck "abruptly and forcefully accelerated his vehicle," a Rivian R1T electric truck, while stopped at a red light at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue.

Per the complaint, Ruck's truck allegedly hit the bumper of Vela's Hyundai Elantra, forcing the car into another vehicle in the intersection, while the truck went on to hit yet another vehicle before smashing into a nearby pizzeria.

Ruck's representatives have declined to comment on the lawsuit, while Vela's attorney, Neama Rahmani, said in a statement to EW last month, "Accidents happen. That's what insurance is for. But Alan Ruck's insurance company, State Farm, has refused to accept responsibility for the crash. Even worse, Ruck's State Farm adjuster has ghosted us for weeks despite repeated calls and letters seeking to work out an amicable settlement."

A State Farm rep told EW last month that it was "premature to comment" on the lawsuit.
