Rob McElhenney watched the Eagles playoff on his phone during the 2023 Emmys on Monday night. The actor shared a photo taken by his wife that featured him fixated on the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers while in his awards-season best. "Who schedules the Emmys the same night as the Eagles?" McElhenney wrote alongside the photo, which was retweeted by the NFL. "Priorities," the league said in response. During Monday's telecast, McElhenney reunited with his former It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia costars Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito to present the award for Outstanding Talk Series. Much like Martin's reunion segment, the cast lamented the fact that their sitcom received zero nominations during its 16-season run on FX. "What an honor it is to be here at the 75th Emmy Awards," Olson said. Wait, what? 75 years? "We've been on air since 2005, I've never even been here," Howerton mused. Day interjected, “Hang on, have you guys been doing this every year without us?” DeVito noted that he has, in fact, won an Emmy of course, but for his work on sitcom Taxi, which ran between 1978 and 1983. It earned 34 nominations overall. "34 nominations in five years vs. zero nominations in 16 years? That math is bad!” Olson said of It's Always Sunny's lack of recognition. McElhenney noted that he, too, recently won five Emmys last week at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Welcome to Wrexham, the sports docuseries about the Welsh soccer club he co-owns with Ryan Reynolds. "I went backstage and I looked for the Martin ones and the Sunny ones and they didn't have 'em," he told his costars on stage. Well, alright, but Day is "still going to poke around" backstage for them, he said. Howerton added, "Yeah I'll probably find something back there to grab."
