The upcoming Fall Guy costars took the stage at Sunday's ceremony to introduce a segment honoring Hollywood's stunt performers, and Blunt quipped about the pair's playful, action-packed rivalry between their respective blockbusters that unfolded at both the summer box office and across the current awards race. "I'm just happy that we can finally put this Barbenheimer rivalry behind us," Gosling, a Best Supporting Actor nominee for his role as Ken in Barbie, told Blunt, who competed for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the titular Oppenheimer character's wife. "And the way this awards season has turned out, wasn't much of a rivalry, so, just let it go!" Gosling then quipped back, noting that, while Oppenheimer — which has won virtually every Best Picture precursor so far, from the Golden Globes to the SAG Awards — did "very well" in the run-up to the Oscars, there's a reason "they call it Barbenheimer and not Oppenbarbie." "I think you guys are at the tail end of that because you were riding Barbie's coattails all summer," he said, to which Blunt responded, "Thanks for Ken-splaining that to me., Mr. 'I need to paint my abs on to get nominated.' Though the Greta Gerwig-directed Barbie ultimately became the top-grossing global hit of the year with nearly $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales (versus Oppenheimer's $961 million haul), Christopher Nolan's historical drama has swept most major awards shows leading up to the Academy Awards, including at the BAFTA Awards, the Directors Guild of America Awards, the Producers Guild of America Awards, and the aforementioned Golden Globes and SAG Awards.
