Bates Motel: Psycho character Marion Crane will appear in final season

UPDATE: Rihanna has been cast in the Marion Crane role.

EARLIER: Bates Motel is about to get psycho.

On Friday, the Bates Motel cast and crew stopped by the EW lounge at San Diego Comic-Con, where they confirmed that the fifth and final season will see the appearance of the iconic victim from the 1960 film Psycho. “We are going to meet Marion Crane, but what we don’t want to do is create the impression that we’re redoing the movie because we’re not at all,” said executive producer Carlton Cuse. “She’s a very different person in the movie and her story plays out in a different way.”

The Crane character enters White Pine Bay just as Norma Bates exits it, even though Cuse says despite the death of Norman’s mother, actress Vera Farmiga isn’t going anywhere. “She’s still very much going to be a part of the show,” he shared. “It was always our plan to do five seasons of the show and the fifth season was sort of Norman’s full blown psychopathology. And so, we wanted to see our version of Norma, but kind of through the prism of Norman. So Vera is very much going to be involved in the show this year.”

While Farmiga will still be on the show and playing a version of Norma, it didn’t stop the actress from being sad about her character’s death. “I had no idea,” she said. “I was surprised how I felt. I didn’t think that it would hit me as hard as it did, but I feel like my fraternal twin has passed. It’s sad, it’s really sad for me.”
