Blake Shelton says he doesn't miss The Voice — but he took home a surprising keepsake

The country singer also admitted that he didn't expect to spend 23 seasons on the competition series.

Don't expect to see Blake Shelton back on The Voice any time soon.

In a preview clip from Friday's episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, the eponymous host and singer asks the country star if he misses the competition series, which is currently underway with its first season in 13 years without him as a coach.

"Not yet. I did that for 23 seasons," Shelton responds. "To be totally honest about it, I wasn't even planning on being there that long."

Shelton goes on to explain that his time on the show was extended due to the pandemic. "I was planning on wrapping it up around 20 seasons or 21 seasons," he says, "and then COVID hit, and then I didn't want to walk out on the show in the middle of COVID, and them trying to scramble and figure out what to do. So I stayed. I didn't have anything else to do anyway. So I stayed a little bit longer, but I stayed too long for me to now miss it."

The "God's Country" singer also reveals that he acquired an unusual keepsake when he concluded his time on the show. "I got my chair," Shelton says. "I told them that it was the one thing I wanted — besides a bunch of money — to take home from The Voice was I wanted my red chair. So they did. They sent my red chair to Oklahoma."

Shelton was the longest-serving coach in The Voice's 12-year history at the time of his departure. His wife, Gwen Stefani, is currently in her seventh season with the show, alongside John Legend, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire.

Shelton will face off against Stefani on Monday’s episode of Barmageddon, the pub game show he created alongside Lee Metzger and Carson Daly.
