TV Article Lethal Weapon stars say the action series is heartbreaking By Oliver Gettell Oliver Gettell Senior news editor, EW.com EW's editorial guidelines Published on September 20, 2016 10:06PM EDT The Lethal Weapon franchise is known for its buddy cop shenanigans, explosive action, and a profane catch phrase about the indignities of aging. But Fox’s new small-screen reboot — starring Clayne Crawford as loose cannon Riggs and Damon Wayans as straight arrow Murtaugh — also has an undercurrent of melancholy. In a recent video interview with EW, several cast members opened up about the series, with the help of some randomly selected keywords. Believe it or not, one of the most apt was heartbreak. Jordana Brewster, who plays police therapist Maureen Cahill, added, “Riggs is experiencing a lot of heartbreak. And that’s part of what makes him so appealing as a character, I think, is that you get to see him sort of build himself back.” Watch the video above for more from the cast, including Keesha Sharp, Kevin Rahm, and Jonathan Fernandez. Lethal Weapon premieres Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
