Beaches: Bette Midler tweets about Idina Menzel's Lifetime remake

Bette Midler has officially given Idina Menzel her blessing to play her beloved character CC in Lifetime’s Beaches remake.

The Divine Miss M took to Twitter Tuesday to offer her stamp of approval on the casting choice, writing, “Can’t wait to see Idina Menzel as CC in Lifetime’s ‘Beaches!'”

True to form, Midler ended her tweet with a comical kicker, saying, “DON’T TELL ME THE ENDING!”

Days before Midler’s endorsement, Menzel praised the screen and stage legend. She tweeted on Thursday, “@BetteMidler has been one of my all time idols. I hope I can make her proud. #beaches.”

EW on Thursday reported Menzel is set to take on Midler’s CC, a performer whose lifelong friendship with Hillary (Barbara Hershey) is at the center of the 1988 tearjerker. Although the Lifetime remake finds the duo meeting in Los Angeles instead of Atlantic City, New Jersey, the music is expected to stay true to the original — Lifetime has indicated Menzel will record her own versions of Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love.”

Production will begin Aug. 15 in Vancouver. The remake will premiere on Lifetime in 2017.
