Jackie Chan joins cast of The Nut Job 2

After lending his voice to characters in the Kung Fu Panda films and Monkey King: Hero is Back, Jackie Chan is again returning to the realm of animation as he’s set to voice a “highly territorial leader of a gang of city mice” in the upcoming sequel The Nut Job 2.

Chan boards the project alongside Will Arnett, Maya Rudolph, and Katherine Heigl, who are reprising their roles as Surly, Precious, and Andie, respectively. Cal Brunker will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Bindley and Bob Barlen.

The Nut Job 2 revolves around Surly’s attempts to band his group of animal friends together to stop his city’s evil mayor from bulldozing Liberty Park in order to build a dangerous amusement park in its place.

Chan, the 62-year old action icon who previously found success with live-action roles in films like the Rush Hour series and The Karate Kid remake, lends his voice to the character of Mr. Feng, described as a cute and cuddly “weapon of mouse destruction” with a fierce, territorial side bent on protecting his home turf from trespassers.

The first Nut Job film debuted in 2014, grossing $120.9 million at the worldwide box office and earning a Golden Trailer nomination.

Open Road will release the film to U.S. theaters on May 19, 2017, while The Weinstein Company is currently selling the film to other worldwide distributors.
