Fun Home: Broadway musical sets its final performance date

The Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home will deliver its final performance on Broadway on September 10 before its national tour launches in October.

As the house begins to relocate, the strides the show has made cannot be ignored. The groundbreaking production had a history-making 18-month run on Broadway, which included 26 preview and 582 regular performances at the Circle in the Square Theatre, becoming the first Broadway show written by women to win Best Musical, as well as the first Broadway musical featuring a lesbian protagonist. The show also took home Best Score, Best Book, and Best Direction Tony honors.

“We’re incredibly proud and grateful that this show has had universal acclaim and such an extended life,” producers Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson, and Barbara Whitman said in a press release. “We’re thrilled that Fun Home will now head out across the country this fall, and thousands of others will get to experience this truly extraordinary production.”

The North American coast-to-coast tour will launch in Cleveland, Ohio and play more than 40 cities in its first year, including Chicago, St. Louis, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

Based on Alison Bechdel’s best-selling graphic memoir, Fun Home revealed the author’s past at three different ages, inviting audiences into her dysfunctional family. The emotional theatrical version features music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by Lisa Kron, and direction by Sam Gold.
